AICTE Guidelines on Direct MBA Admission

In its circular notification dated August 19, 2020, AICTE has issued following instructions which are applicable to all the MBA/PGDM institutes in India:

As MBA entrance tests could not be conducted due to fear of spread of Corona Virus in many States, nor there is any indication whether it will be conducted finally, AICTE has considered alternative proposition through which selection of the students could be made for admission into PGDM course which will benefit both the Institutions as well as the students.

In the current scenario, the PGDM / MBA institutions are allowed to admit the students on the basis of marks obtained in qualifying examination by preparing a merit list in a transparent manner. If vacant seats are still available, candidates shall be selected based on the merit in the qualifying UG exams.

However, most of the top MBA colleges like IIMs, XLRI, SPJIMR, MDI among others have already completed their admission process and have commenced the academic session, it may not be possible to get direct admission in any of the top MBA colleges without entrance exam nor is there any facility of direct MBA admission in best college with low fees like FMS. Many Private Universities and other top B-schools do offer Direct MBA Admissions.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, MBA admission and session commencement is delayed in almost all the MBA colleges. As such more opportunities with direct MBA admission without entrance exam and without the GD/WAT process have come up for the 2020-22 batch. Not only in India, but also across the world, many Universities and colleges are offering direct MBA admission without GMAT or GRE entrance exams.

20 IIMs only accept scores of CAT. The exam is held by IIMs in last week of November or first week of December.

According to AICTE (Ministry of HRD), PGDM B-schools have option to accept any of the 6 national tests: CAT, XAT, CMAT, MAT, ATMA or GMAT.

Top Private Universities like NMIMS and Symbiosis International University, XUB conduct their own exam.

Many colleges that are not within Top 100 B-schools offer direct MBA admission without entrance exam to complete their seats quota. They guide students to take exams like MAT or ATMA to complete procedure.
